Hello everyone!

I finally decided to post my first sewing project. A Reversible Pouch. Hope you like it.

REVERSIBLE POUCH

I made this pouch for my E-reader which measures approx. 7 x 5 inches.
It’s not a snug fit. There’s about 1/2 inch space left on all sides after finishing.

Materials:

  • 2 Pieces of fabric measuring approx. 19.5 x 7.5 inches
  • 2 Pieces of scrap fabric for button loop
  • 2 Buttons
  • Thread of 2 colors corresponding to the color of the fabric
I have used fleece and cotton for my pouch.

Both the pieces can be backed up with interfacing to make it sturdy.

Keep in mind while sewing, the spool of thread put on top of the sewing machine should correspond to the fabric which is kept on top and the bobbin thread should correspond to the fabric which is kept below.

Measurements:

E-reader Length: 7 inches
E-reader Width: 5 inches
Flap: ½ of Length = 3½ inches
Seam Allowance: ¼ inch

For the fabric length I have taken

(2 x E-reader length) = 2 x 7 = 14 inches
Flap = 3½ inches
(2 x Seam allowance) = 2 x ¼ = ½ inch
Ease of 1½ inches

Total fabric length
= 14 + 3½ + ½ + 1½ = 19.5 inches

For the fabric width I have taken

E-reader width = 5 inches
(2 x Seam allowance) = 2 x ¼ = ½ inch
Ease of 2 inches

Total fabric width
= 5 + ½ + 2 = 7.5 inches

Directions:

  1. Cut 2 pieces of fabric of 19.5 x 7.5 inches or as per your measurements

  1. Lay the two pieces with right sides together

  1. Pin up and sew one end (one narrow end of 7.5 inches).

  1. Turn over to the right side, press and top stitch.

  1. Place the fabric with the right side face up and mark 7¾ inches from the sewn end of the fabric.
i.e. length of e-reader + ½ inch ease + seam allowance.
= 7 + ½ + ¼ = 7¾ inches

  1. From the other end, fold down only one piece of fabric at the 7¾ mark.

  1. Turn over to the other side. It should look like this.

  1. On the other side mark the other fabric 7¾ inches from the sewn end.
\

  1. Fold the fabric the same way at the 7¾ mark and line up with the other fabric

  1. Mark the seam allowance on both the sides and on the top and sew. You     can curve both the sides for the flap. Leave a gap on top to turn inside out.          Do not sew the folded side of the fabric.

  1. After sewing turn your work inside out.

  1. To make the loop for the button, take 2 pieces of fabric (one piece of each color used) of about 3 x ¾ inches. The finished loop should be big enough for the button to pass through. Also keep in mind that about ½ inch of both ends of the loop will be sewn inside the top of the pouch .  Place both the pieces with right sides together and sew both sides. Trim both sides after sewing if required. Turn it inside out. (It might be a little difficult  to turn it inside out. You can use any other method which suits you).

  1. Fold the loop in half and place the ends between the two fabrics in the         centre. The loop left outside should be big enough for the button to pass       through.  Pin the loop in place and top stitch the open end of the pouch.

  1. Sew the buttons on both sides and your Reversible  pouch is ready.
